Why you should be posting on LinkedIn
Out of the 690 million monthly users on Linkedin, only 40% of these are daily users, and only 1% share content! This means there is HUGE potential to get your name and your work out there, not only by being a part of the small number of those who are posting, but also being seen by the many who aren’t, especially if you post regularly and engage with that 60% who aren’t daily users of the platform.
In addition to this, only 1 million (0.2% of users) have published an article and with the LinkedIn algorithm favouring natively shared content over externally linked content, this is another great opportunity to share blog-type material to boost your profile.
Looking more locally, there are over 28 million users in the UK and 2 million users across Ireland, each of these are growing in number, particularly with the 2020 pandemic.
Seeing that the numbers are low for those who are contributing to the feed, and those consuming content on the platform being high, it's a really easy way to get your word out there, meet and connect with the right people for you, and grow a network organically.
So what's stopping you? What are your hurdles to posting?
Confidence can an issue and thinking that we are going to sound silly or not be taken seriously is a worry, but if you are writing about your area of expertise and your own experience, then you’re sharing information and content that many others won’t know much about!
Content ideas can be another stumbling block as often we believe we need to share completely original and new ideas. Think about the story of your work or business, hints and tips to share, achievements you have made, projects you are working on (obviously without breaking any confidences) or sharing your own perspective on wider issues.
Length and structure of post holds others back as they aren’t sure about how to write the caption or copy for the post. It doesn’t need to be long, in fact posts are limited in the number of characters but if you want to write something longer write it as an article. As for the structure, what is the main point you’re trying to get across and think about how the reader will hear and respond to what you’ve said.
Lack of connections can make it feel like no one will see your content, so why bother? Well having content and posting can actually help to build your connections and audience! LinkedIn can be a great place to build a network organically, especially when you’re active.
There are many other hurdles but if you’re keen to get posting and either not sure how to start or need a boost to get started, then I’d love to help!
It’s a lot of fun when you get into it and can help grow any kind of business.
